Shibuya announced a $6.9 million fundraise, led by a16z Crypto and Variant, with participation from notable investors including Paris Hilton and Kevin Durant. The video was created to introduce the raise and highlight Shibuya’s full list of backers.
The titles were designed with inspiration from the vibrant visuals of 1980s City Pop, layered over a cyberpunk mood influenced by The Running Man from Neo Tokyo (1987), directed by Yoshiaki Kawajiri.
I designed custom UI overlays for screen graphics, composited them with hand-drawn illustrations, and animated each shot to bring the cyberpunk aesthetic to life. The title design was crafted in the same visual language to complete the world-building.
This visual approach helped set the tone for Shibuya’s storytelling direction, establishing a strong sense of aesthetic identity early in its public presence.
